Building Permits
Building Permits
In the majority of cases, a Building Permit will be required before undertaking a building project. We can advise as to whether this is the case with your individual situation.
A building Permit application needs to demonstrate to the Building Surveyor that the proposed construction meets all the requirements of the building regulations. All applications will require drawings to be submitted, which typically include:
- Dimensioned floor plans and elevation views
- Section views showing the structure of the building
- Roof and stormwater plan
- Structural framing plans
- Door and window schedules
- Light and ventilation schedules
- Detailed drawings of various parts of the building where further information regarding its construction is required
Additional documentation which may be required to be submitted as part of the building application includes:
- Protection Works documentation which is required when the proposed building may impact neighbouring properties
- Engineer’s drawings and certification
- Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) assessment
- Public Protection documentation and traffic management plans
- Report and Consent approvals which are sought from council when a regulation cannot be fully met
We can also help with your decision regarding whether the construction project is best undertaken by a registered builder or if you should registered as an owner builder, and what is involved in registering.
